The most common type of industrial steel building provided by Castle Steel Buildings is vehicle or plant housing, whether it be a simple, single, domestic garage or a service building with roof lights on an industrial estate.
We often receive a range of requests for these types of building and there is no single standard or one-size-fits-all. Each and every client has their own specific needs and so each and every building receives individual attention and it’s own specific design.
We provided a steel building to a local quarry that was no exception to this. The company wanted a straight forwards plant hire and machine servicing facility fitted with roof lights and while it was relatively simple, it was enormous in size!
A typical portal framed building, with a fully galvanised steel frame it measured a whopping 15 metres in width and was 30 metres long. The eaves were 5 metres in height. Our high quality barge board and eaves flashings were used to seal the inside from the elements.
Although Castle Steel Buildings can provided basic ground works, such as pillar pads for the columns and a footprint base, on this occasion it wasn’t necessary. The quarry company were well placed to provide their own base and the building was installed on a pad that exceeded the minimum recommendations.
The GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) roof lights by Steadmans are a cost-effective solution to provide natural light. With light transmission levels of over 80%, they are ideal for industrial buildings like this and are also suitable for retail, leisure, warehousing and agricultural projects.
The roof lights have a surface treatment that resists the degradation and discolouration resulting from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light and can be cleaned with detergents or steam cleaned.
Our range of GRP roof lights matches the profiles of our fibre cement and metal roof cladding and is available in lengths up to 8 metres.
